Not a library book. Her only book was Black Beauty, written between 1871 and 1877 (51-57 years old) in their house at Old Catton. died at age 58.
Although "Black Beauty" is quite a short fiction book, it took its author seven years altogether, as she was often ill. She did not live long after its publication in 1877, and earned only £20 from it. Ironically, after her death it became a huge bestseller, and has been popular with young girls ever since. The first film adaptation of the book was "Your Obedient Servant" (1917) directed by Edward H. Griffith.
Synopsis: As a young horse, Black Beauty is well-loved and happy; but, when his owner is forced to sell him, his life changes drastically. He has many new owners--some of them cruel and some of them kind. All he needs is someone to love him again... Whether pulling an elegant carriage or a ramshackle cab, Black Beauty tries to live as best he can. This is his amazing story, told as only he could tell it.
